QUICK ANSWER

How long are several estimated sleep cycles?

With the default 90-minute planning value, four cycles equal 6 hours, five equal 7 hours 30 minutes and six equal 9 hours of estimated sleep. Actual sleep cycles vary, so the cycle length is adjustable.

HOW IT WORKS

Cycle count × estimated cycle length

The calculator multiplies the number of selected cycles by the chosen estimated cycle length, adds an optional fall-asleep buffer, and applies the result to the sleep start time. It also displays neighboring cycle counts for comparison.

Sleep timing is an estimate. A clock-based calculator cannot measure your actual sleep stage or sleep quality.

3 SIMPLE STEPS

How to use this calculator

  1. 1

Enter the time you plan to get into bed.

  2. 2

Choose the estimated cycle length, cycle count and fall-asleep buffer.

  3. 3

Review the calculated wake time and compare the surrounding cycle options.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Sleep Cycle Calculator FAQ

How many sleep cycles do people usually have?

NHLBI describes people as generally experiencing about four to six sleep cycles during a night, while the timing and composition of those cycles vary.

Is a sleep cycle always the same length?

No. Cycle duration varies, which is why this calculator allows an estimated value from 80 to 100 minutes.

Does the calculator detect REM or deep sleep?

No. It performs time arithmetic only and does not measure sleep stages.
